Ideas: What, why and how.

An idea is nothing more than progressive thought, which occurs in your head at an unmeasurable speed. We all have ideas of our own. They can be simple or bold. But some ideas are truly special, and the impact which follows can be massive.

Where does an idea come from?

Ideas can come when you are consciously cultivating them, or completely out of the blue. Universally for all ideas, is that they are a product of our existing information. Have you ever had an idea and traced down how you got to it? What i’m trying to say is that ideas are simply made up by other ideas. Most ideas are simply thoughts and memories, that are mixed up and distorted by the mind. So, this ultimately means that no ideas are truly original to its root, since they are just a result of previous experiences.

The picture above illustrates the two very different sides of our brain. On the left, you see the hemisphere that is responsible for logic, and on the right, the hemisphere that is responsible for creativity. For new ideas to come to life, these two brain hemispheres must work together.

Think of all the ideas that are currently being shaped

Everywhere around us, creative people are holding valuable ideas. These ideas are simply thoughts, but can change the world when put into action (yes, i’m being serious). One week from now, the product based of a great idea may be revealed to the world, and completely change our life. The likelihood of this happening is marginal, but once in a while it does happen. If we take a look back to 2007, when Steve Jobs revealed the newest iPhone, we can see an entire industry be disrupted overnight. The modern phone, and the world of touch screen technology as we know it today, is much because of an idea to remove the static keyboard.

The importance of ideas in business

In business, you can be an innovator or an imitator. Either you do new things, or you do things which have been done previously. Both can work. But if you are really ambitious, and want to make a big impact, you must innovate. Ideas are crucial in innovation, and is to some degree what fuels it. Businesses that innovate have a lot of smart & creative people, who constantly come up with fresh ideas.

Ideas Vs knowledge

It’s hard to say which is more important, and it depends a lot on which perspective we see it from. We already know that ideas are formed by our knowledge. But from a competitive perspective, having knowledge is useless if you are not forming new ideas with it.

How can you get more ideas?

Some of you may be intrigued to get some ideas of your own now. The good news is that you don’t have to be a genius to get them. Some people are undoubtedly more creative than others, but anyone can get ideas.

Here are a few things to consider if you want to have a breakthrough idea:

• Note down EVERYTHING
• Procrastinate (Yes, really. Procrastination gives us more time to think. Time which may give u that special idea)
